What is glaucoma laser?
Laser treatment of glaucoma involves a non-invasive procedure called selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) to lower your eye pressure. This procedure activates the drainage system in the eye, which increases fluid outflow and reduces pressure on the optic nerve.
SLT is now a first line treatment option for glaucoma. It is a safe and effective treatment that may be used in conjunction with other glaucoma therapies. The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting and takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Most individuals will notice a reduction in intraocular pressure within the first few weeks after the procedure.
Common side effects of SLT may include mild eye discomfort or sensitivity to light, which typically subside within a few days.
